PORTUGUESE STATE R&D PROJECTS RECOGNITION

In recognition of the engineering excellence, innovative solution provision and in-depth expertise within the company, TecnoVeritas is regularly invited to participate in industry-leading R&D projects. In collaboration with industry partners, educational institutions and universities worldwide, TecnoVeritas develops innovative technologies and tools in preparation for future challenges.

We are an organization renowned by the Portuguese State with expertise in the area of R&D.

UOPV – UNMANNED OCEANIC PATROL VESSEL | 2019 – PRESENT

The UOPV project aims to develop the prototype of an innovative multipurpose Unmanned Surface Vessel (USV) within the scope of maritime security. It also aims to become a state of the art in the field of new unmanned surface vehicles for maritime safety purposes through the development of an innovative remote positioning control and wave energy propulsion systems using hydrofoils.

GREENH2ICE | 2018 – PRESENT

The GreenH2ICE project intends to investigate and develop an integrated, high-efficiency renewable hydrogen production station for fueling vehicles, in particular through the design of an electrolyser and a new process for converting internal combustion engines to run on H2.

The project started in March 2018 and has the participation of the National Energy and Geology Laboratory (LNEG).

DESULPHURISATION TECHNOLOGY | 2016 – PRESENT

Due to the restrictive regulation on sulphur content imposed recently to Maritime Transportation (especially in the ECA areas), to the lack of fuel with low sulphur in the market (which prices increased) and to the need of restricting the SOx emissions caused by the oxidation of sulphur in fuel (also verified inshore industries), it was urgent to find a solution to this problem.

TecnoVeritas is developing this innovative solution, that users can reduce the sulphur content of their fuels to levels allowed by the regulations at the same time that it remains its desirable characteristics (thermal, physical and chemical).

REFRESH – FP7-285708 | 2012 – 2015

TecnoVeritas is a partner of the FP7 REFRESH Project – Green Retrofitting of Existing Ships. REFRESH will address the aspects of retrofitting that are essential for improving the energy efficiency onboard. The central concept of REFRESH is the dynamic energy modelling, i.e. the simulation of the energy production, consumption and losses over time. This idea will be implemented in a decision support tool that will allow onboard and ashore personnel to monitor the performance of the ship and adopt appropriate practices as a function of its operational profile.

The main objectives of REFRESH are the optimisation of the energy efficiency and air emissions for retrofitting and operation the development of a monitoring and management methodology for operation.

HISMAR – FP6-012585 | 2005 – 2008

TecnoVeritas was a partner of the EC Framework 6, HISMAR program (Hull Identification System for Marine Autonomous Robotics). This project offers a means to effectively and efficiently undertake hull inspection and maintenance, thereby improving the potential safety of the vessel.

Cleaning of the hull ensures that the vessel maintains the lowest possible resistance, which has an extremely large impact on the hydrocarbon fuel consumed and reduces vessel emissions and operating costs.

TecnoVeritas developed the mechanical study and manufacturing of the robot platform, waterproof drive, motor casings and cleaning heads.

Extensive use of solid modelling computer tools was used as well as the use of a substantial knowledge of marine, mechanical and manufacturing engineering.

TECNOCAT – NOX CATALYSER – EC PRIME PROJECT

TecnoVeritas developed an SCR type of NOx catalyser, called TecnoCat. To develop this project TecnoVeritas signed a contract with a Portuguese University – Universidade de Aveiro.

The catalyser, with a stainless steel support, was conceived in a way that it can be reusable. The prototype was successfully tested at the TecnoVeritas laboratory engine, with high efficiencies.

HYDROGEN FUELLED CAR | 2010

TecnoVeritas developed a system that allows the conversion of existing vehicles to work with hydrogen.

Since the end of 2009, TecnoVeritas has a vehicle of the brand Renault, the Twingo model, converted to use hydrogen. The system, already developed is applied to the internal combustion engine properly modified.

TecnoVeritas continues to develop the system of production and storage hydrogen, which can be sold to the users of the converted vehicle. The transformation has to be approved by the Portuguese authorities. The system, now assembled on the vehicle allows the transition from gasoline to hydrogen and back.

The hydrogen should be produced from an electrical renewable energy source, leading to a “green utilization” of the vehicle, with CO2 emissions under 0.5 g/km.

H2 CONTAINER | 2010

Carbon Connections is an R&D program sponsored by the British government which the main objective is to develop clean forms of generating energy.

TecnoVeritas developed for the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, Sir Joseph Institute, one Laboratory power plant based on a compression ignition engine capable of producing electric and thermal energy virtually without carbon emissions.

Hydrogen is to be produced at another NaREC (National Renewable Energy Centre UK) facility, while biofuels can be blended and conditioned at this lab.

The Compression Ignition engine can be fuelled with hydrogen or with a blend of biofuels and hydrogen or even only with biofuels.
